Re: Klipsch Heresys:250$ good buy?

I picked up an old set from my high school band room when they replaced the stereo system there. They were "donated" to me - I figured it was better than throwing out perfectly good speakers, right?!?

Anyway, for the short time they were in full operation they sounded superb. Unfortunately, they are the originals - yes the older ones have a better xover than the newer version. However, after a few months of serious listening a tweeter horn started to "rattle." After further investigation, I found that the adhesive on the voice coil had just let go - after all, they're 26 years old. I was severely disappointed - it's hard to beet out horn sensitivity and detail. I ended up scrapping the tweets, and stored away the 12"ers and mid-horns. Even scrapped the xover, and used the box for a different 12" after sealing the horn cutouts.

Long story shortened - I'd offer $100. If they are the originals you need to beware of age, as all manmade things wear out.

Best of luck,

Scott
