Dex,I don't know if you have considered this yet but the Audio Electronics Suppy AE-3 preamp might be another option to consider. Audio Electronics Supply is the low-overhead arm of Cary Audio Design. The AE-3 costs about $600 assembled ($400 in kit form) and is also point-to-point hand wired. This preamp uses 2 6SN7 tubes.
