I just purchased a used Jolida 501A and have actually used the search function looking at most of the previous posts but still have some questions regarding biasing etc. I don't think the unit I purchased has a manual but I plan to call Jolida Monday to see if I can get one. I have a Jolida hybrid but have not ever owned an all tube amp.
What equipment will I need to purchase to bias the tubes? I saw in some of the posts that it should be biased around 50MV. Is there anything that will change this value, (where you should bias either higher or lower)? What happens if you bias to high or to low? I plan on doing some tube rolling but wondered if you go with KT 88's or 90's does this change the value you bias at?
I also noticed that some folks have tried the 5751's in place of the 12AX7 with varying results. Since I have a quite a few 5751's I was going to make that change providing it will work. Any other thoughts about tube combinations that yield good results? I did read about some using 6681's with good results in place of the 12AX's. Any thoughts about 6550's vs KT 88's or 90's. What sonic differences do you get between them.
