RE: Linkwitz Orions go to 20Hz ... Well not really

Just for further clarification, I found the Orions to be *extremely* good sounding from top to bottom (of their range). And I would not call them “bass restricted”. But for the source material I was using, largely Late Romantic classical, which is often, especially at speed, very demanding in the upper and middle lower octave and, for organ music, sometimes lower, I found the Orions moderately wanting in the lower registers. I found it telling that the Vaughn Williams' “Tallis Fantasia”, although it is an all strings composition, the Orions were a little short of “weight” in what admittedly was a large room (Linkwitz' room). To be sure, though, “Tallis Fantasia” with it battalion of bass strings, is no wimp in the lower registers. In fact, the two expanded orchestras and the string quartet in the middle , at times, resembles the sound of a great organ. I have heard it live on 3 occasions. It was on this recording that Linkwitz, himself, without any prompting from me, suggested turning on the Thors (pair). For the rest of the demonstration the Thors were on and the system sounded much more up to the task.

I might add that one of my top 5 favorite speakers was the Orion predecessor, the Audio Artistry Beethoven which, including its separate dipole sub pair, was at least twice the size and had 6-9 db more bass output than the Orions. The Audio Artistry Beethoven is a worthy standard, top to bottom.
