Can't compare with other designs -- never had a subwoofer before -- but I built a Tempest sub in a sealed box ("mid-Q design") because it was relatively small (21.5" external). So far, I love it. I know they say that vented goes deeper, louder, but I can't imagine needing more bass, and the sub is in a ht setup in a very large, vaulted living room that opens out onto another vaulted room. I think I could blow the house down with the thing!Good luck!
