I thought the same as you. My holy grail was 1) B&W 801's. 2) Infinity Epsilons. I wanted speed, truth, detail and so on.
What they offer you, The RM2's give you in spades!
The B&W has powerful bass. As does the Infinity.
The RM2 has an option. The standard model has 22hz -3db point, wheras the carbon-fibre "megawoofer" hits 20hz in stride. The PR reinforces this. back up from them about 15 feet and feel yourself shake. This isn't midfi BS 60hz thump, this is honest 20hz power.
My only problem is, just like Jack in the box fast food, they don't make it until you order it. The borosilicate sound treatment [I like this better than loose sand] takes a few days to dry. This KILLS suprious cabinet resonance by -10db.
Imagine that a $14,000 speaker uses a near massless single ended ribbon mid. This uses a near massless double ended ribbon. Far less distortion!
Sorry I pulled you into my vortex of speaker lust, but I was nearly blown out of my chair when I heard "Diamonds on the soles...". Not from loudness, but from being immersed in the most unbelievably beautiful and natural sound. It was like an atmosphere comprised of harmony and not just air. My weak writing skills cannot communicate effectively how good these sound.
I NEVER thought I'd open my wallet to the tune of $2,600 for a speaker that does all this while laughing at dynamics, and reproducing tight 20hz bass as easily as you breathe.
Brian Cheny tells me that TAS magazine will have a review of these speakers, and the RM2's just blew the reviewer away! VMPS makes speakers that reviewers buy out of pocket. Not the kind they are given to review and sell later.
Be mad if you spent more money for a lesser speaker. I know I would be.
If speakers were women, this would be the natural beauty you discover next door that knocks you out, not an overpriced starlet that is more artificial than real.
