perhaps some more info as to extensions....I think DbM13#11 to A69 to GbAlt(#9b9#5) to F13b9 could go either to Emaj9#11 or to GMaj9 or to Bb7b9 or to any of a hundred other places...
And my post was not a rant as to ALL groups from a certain period. I tried to make very clear that it was not a characterization of ALL - merely a generalization as to the majority of "musicians" producing in a particular style.
My adjectives of "depressing" and "no-talent" were applied to modern "alt" music, not that of the 60s. And it's not BS hot air - there's 2 kinds of music. Good music and cr*p. Most alternative music is of the latter.
And most groups in the sixties used I, IV, V, and usually either vi, or ii -- making the total choices in the harmonic structure 4. Count them, 4.
My Beethoven allusion was to Wellington's Victory - a musical farce which was created to appeal to the common buzz of the time - little musical substance, in fact, an affront to Beethoven's other works, and created with the intent not to produce art, but to produce popular fodder for the masses to devour. I think it still a suitable simile to the motivation and lack of substance in alternative and other contemporary "musical" styles.
Nothing personal - I respect your music choice and insight, as shown clearly by your knowledge of Joe Henderson's music and others. However, I think most alternative music is lame.
