re neils nomination of alma. i secod this as long as she's not going to be my wife. she was a modern woman before the term was coined.re sibelius - i think his music just doesn't fit into any convenient group description, i.e. classical, romantic, etc. he started out as a late romantic and ended up as an early neo-classicist. if you like romantic - you get bored hearing his early stuff and can't appreciate his later works. if you're a neo classicist his later works are competing with stravinsky etc and are often overlooked. personally, i believe his body of works puts him in the pantheon of the greats.
