It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Re: Wagner: Mark Twain on.

Hi, John

Mark Twain,

When traveling Europe went to Bayreuth.

"Wagner's music is better than it sounds".

of Parsifal "The first act of the three occupied two hours, and I enjoyed that despite the singing."

My wife intensely dislikes the amorality displyed throughout the Ring Cycle. It is mostly here that I think the parallel lies, with his personal / artistic/ moral philosophy, if we can dignify RW's ravings on this topics as philosophy. While I accept her point......

I think alot of this ios retrospectively balming RW for Hitler and all the blood and soil and volk crap from the 19thC, when it all began.

I happen to enjoy nearly all his music, and nearly all of his operas, The Dutchman being my favourite, (they are all too long). But, I personally find Wagnerites even more boring than your average opera buff, and even more boring than people who just don't get HIP at all, they tend to overlap.

On this last subject, loving Walter's and Beecham's Mozart and Munch's anything as I do, I wonder why they can't stretch ot it, maybe I am younger in mind than I think. Or it could be that I am a trained singer, and can follow a score and hear when the playing makes it easier to follow.
