Never forget that it`s music, and music should be for everyone on every level; I can think of no other musical gendre with such a wide range of styles, appealing to so broad a market. The best musicians make a very healthy living but because they`re not multi-platinum artists it`s possible to see them in the flesh without it costing an arm and a leg, or being crushed by screaming teenagers; count your blessings - good jazz still flourishes, just look at the talent on show during the BBC`s `Young Jazz Musician of The Year` for instance.
When`s the last time you sat through an independent `Art Nouveau` screening squinting at the sub-titles - will you be boycotting `Spiderman` or the new `Star Wars Trilogy` blockbusters because they`re not paying homage to `real` film-making?
Lighten up why don`t you - is there any form of jazz which you physically cannot buy and listen to at your own leisure?
Does it matter that the general public don`t appreciate `real` jazz, in the way that you or I don`t appreciate `real` films?
What exactly is the point of music - does it need `advancing` continuously? I`d say if it ain`t broke, don`t fix it.Best regards,
Chris Redmond.
