A great musician. I just listened to a bit of a piano trio recording by her--phenomenal skill. Her jazz orchestra is legendary. The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra (formerly the Mel Lewis-Thad Jones Big Band) also swings hard. And do not, whatever you do, forget about the Mingus Big Band. Or why not go for the real deal, and get some old Mingus recordings.
