Wayne Shorter is one of the most important jazz composers of all time, definitely in my top handful of favorites. All the 60's BN stuff is worth having, and there is lots of other good stuff out there too, though I don't own much of it myself. Native Dancer is good.As a player though, he is way down the list for me. There are very few recordings he's on that really grab me as far as his playing goes. Not that he sounds bad, just not a standout most of the time. I know I'll take plenty of heat on this one, but I firmly believe that Shorter's legacy will rest far more on his writing than his playing.
