Good question.I'll answer with Bach's 5th cello suite.
This music is not necessarily my favorite, but it's in my Top 10 and it has some traits to it that would make it something I could hear over and over for a year.
Here's why: with only one instrument playing, you can really focus on how each musician is interpreting the music, which would keep the repeated playings fresher and less repetitive over time.
I'd rather listen to one "simple" piece of music over and over than a more complex piece -- I think I would get bored of the more complex piece, like Beethoven Symphony 9, let's say.
[Note: I don't mean to imply that the Bach Suite #5 is simplistic...I think the readers will know what I mean.]
I wouldn't want a vocal piece of music -- I'd get bored hearing the same tune over and over. Also, maybe it's just me, but as much as I like vocal music, I really don't want to hear the same voice over and over.
I chose suite #5 over all the others because to me this piece has a wider range of emotional elements. It is sadder than some of the other Bach suites, but it has its more joyous moments too.
