Lots of good ones (vibes, that is), I'm surprised people haven't mentioned Gary Burton. A few of my favorites include the 72 classic release with Chick Corea, 'Crysal Silence'; the 74 release with Ralph Towner, 'Matchbook'; and the more recent (98) 'Like Minds' (featuring Corea, Metheny, Haynes & Hollands). If you ever have the chance to see Burton live and close up, it's a treat. His technique of using 4 mallets is a joy to behold.Coincidentally I'm playing Grant Green's 'Idle Moments', a beautiful recording, featuring Bobby Hutcherson on vibes, as well as Joe Henderson, Duke Pearson, Bob Cranshaw & Al Harewood. What a fabulous bluesy, swinging piece of art. This is a RVG Blue Note reissue, great sound throughout.
