That's rather a large logical leap. Because I don't particularly like
Bowie means I see no value in ALL of popular culture? I don't think so.
Lady Gaga is a pop culture icon, and she does have some serious talent.
So does Aretha Franklin.
Most if not all popular culture is aimed at the lowest common denominator
of consumer. Hence it tends to be " ... superficial, consumerist, sensationalist, or corrupt [wikipedia]", a judgement with which I happen
to agree. And most pop culture artists tend to have rather minimal
talents. But, they do tend to be able to make rather large amounts of
money by using the talents they do have to maximum advantage.
