So, today, I went to Festival Hill at Round Top, James Dick's fantastic vision of classical music, and heard the piano students in recital. Beethoven No. 30, Debussy Preludes Book II, and Ravel Barque and Ondine. Then I heard Sonata No. 1 (1990) by Carl Vine (b. 1954). Holy Moly, Batman. This was ridiculous and well played to boot (Thomas Steigerwald from Texas). Yeah, there was DENSITY.
Afterwards, I took in, in the 1,000 seat VERY European concert hall, Mother Goose Suite, Prokofiev 2nd Violin Concerto (Jonathan Swartz) and Pictures with the 90 piece orchestra, Michael Stern conducted.
It was a good music day in South Texas.
