Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

John Ogden

The July issues of Fanfare magazine and American Record Guide both reviewed a recording of piano works composed and performed by John Ogden. The ARG reviewer described Ogden's music as similar to Sorabji. The Fanfare reviewer, Peter Burwasser, described it as like the denser compositions of of Alkan, Busoni, and Reger, but with the more chromatic harmonies of late Scriabin.

It is a 1979 recording released now for the first time. The Fanfare reviewer said the sound was dim and thin. The ARG reviewer said deterioration of the master tape was noticeable but acceptable.

It is on the Enharmonic Records label, number 13-023.
