Seeing the Candidates can make it even harder, Filtering out distracting visual elements.
And no doubt some politics in involved in International Competitions. Many of the same people show up, as you said, same with Orch Auditions, there's a group making the rounds, hoping to win a Job.
There's more than one story about Orch Auds where they thought a certain person won,
from behind the Screen, turned out to be some one else!
It's really hard to get and keep an Orch Job, but having a Career as a Soloist has got to be the toughest.
