incomplete sound can do a number on music. louie bellson made a big leap when he recorded skin deep with the duke. somewhere the story exists and one of us should search it out.
but skin deep was a breakthrough drum recording through the efforts of bellson. and i have always loved that recording. on a 45 its backed with the mooche. an awesome combo for a 45 and both are on ellington uptown. see link below:
my sister had this 45 back in about 1956 and i was hooked at age 11 or 12. eventually i met louie at a hospital where i worked and he was a wonderful man. had i not gravitated to LA from buffalo, i would never have met some of the greats that i've had the pleasure to.
