Of course I think that you're right.
Frank was a joke and he would probably admit that he wasn't really doing music. He was a "STAR" and that meant that his crooning was in the context of stardom, and acting, and carrying on in Vegas. Where-ever he went was Vegas.
David Bowie, who was a songwriter, blew away Bing Crosby, at his own game on USA TV.
And I agree too that it was that generation, - it was horrible. The whole lot, nothing funny ever came out of Bob Hope's mouth, or Jerry Lewis, or any of them.
Still, it's all art, and we don't have a definition of art. We can say that it's not "good" art, - but in the end, - it's just our opinion. Frank was the same as Brittany Spears, who was the same as Bruce Springsteen, and the same as the Sex Pistols and Frank Zappa, and Ornette Coleman. Brittany Spears at least, WAS hot.....
