Some of my favorite, newly discovered composers of classical orchestral music:
AAGAARD-NILSEN, TORSTEIN (1964-
AMDAHL, MAGNE (1942-
ARGENTO, DOMINICK (1927-
DAVIES, SIR PETER MAXWELL (1934-
GANDOLFI, MICHAEL (1956-
GILLIS, DON (1912-1978)
HIGDON, JENNIFER (1962-
HÖGBERG, FREDRIK (1971-
MacMILLAN, JAMES (1959-
SHILKRET, NATHANIEL (1889-1992)
These were all discovered this year, I perhaps have discovered over 100 new composers I like by using streaming audio on the Internet to check them out. This is just another reason all the other non-orchestral music had to leave as their is so much great orchestral classical still being composed to this very day! It is really exciting!
I loved your book analogy, it is much easier to put a book down that is going slow or out right boring and not finish it, if you check it out from the library. The problem is if I buy it I feel the urge to read it, no matter how tedious it is. So I prefer to check out books instead!
We do have excellent live music in Reno as the Reno Philharmonic plays in the Pioneer Theatre which has excellent acoustics.
Happy listening,
Teresa
