Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Mozart Clarinet Concerto

was originally written for a Basset horn, wasn't it? It's an alto clarinet pitched in F, IIRC. The Concerto was later transcribed for a Bb or A clarinet, but their instrument ranges are a bit smaller so changes were made in the score, particularly in the arpeggios. I believe major manufacturers did offer both instruments with extra keys duplicating the range needed for the original piece, but those are relatively rare.

There is a recording on the Propius label using one of those instruments with the extended range.
