I can only add the following to the already accurate post by Dan.Quartet, although not the best musically, was recorded 24/96. The sound quality is awesome. In fact Metheny and Mays specifically wrote some things to take advantage of the clarity of this recording process. There are a few good spots for system evaluation and special effects.
As Falls Wichita... is also one of my favorites. On a quiet night put on the side long song and sit back. AAhhhh. Oh yeah, it's better on vinyl.
Slightly different, but related. You may also want to check out Lyle Mays first 2 solo works. Yes, they are mostly keyboard songs but he is a truly gifted composer and arranger. After listening to these albums you get a much better appreciation for his contributions to the group albums.
