Presumably you mean the extraordinary 1957 EMI. With Herbie (even when addressing his manifold detractors) it's difficult to identify a recording by 'first'! The subsequent DGG Digital I found very disappointing--Soltiesque, even--but the final fine Vienna one is appropriately valedictory. You presumably know the story about young Herbie being locked overnight in the crypt by the Abbot of St. Florian before his first Bruckner performance--by chance, #8--to 'commune' with Anton's geist!! I hereby sentence you to view the Sony DVD with its camera-angle locked on to the Salzburger Meister!!!!!!!!Regards, John.
