Couldn't agree with you more, and I think that is why I vastly prefer Bernstein's versions. I can think of quite a few other conductors who make the even the "Spring" Symphony sound like a dirge and its all downhill from there thru the rest. Originally I thought it was just dense orchestration so I tried HIP which didn't help either. Then I picked up LB's set. IMHO he infuses these symphonies with some joy, much as he did with his Beethoven set.
