The Rough Guide does indeed have a great variety. Be aware that their format for a region is to have a wide range of styles and eras from a range of artists. That means it's NOT the same as a consistent type of music from one artist as in the usual CDs, so if you want reccs of specific artists, they're not necessarily the way to go.Putamayo is a lable that specializes in similar compilations from all over the world, including mixing regions. They tend to be very good too.
Try this for online researching: www.6moons.com. Go to their music reviews and they've got a lot on styles, but even more on specific artists and specific recordings. Excellent place to start.
