With your post, it's the first time I hear of Pavel Grigor'yevich Chesnokov. According to informations I have seen on Amazon, he is/was a composer of traditionnal Russian Orthodox Chant. I am not very fond of this music even if I can listen to it with pleasure. I am not involve really by "Basso Profondo" voices and Russian Monks Choirs.Arvo Pärt's music is inspired by Orthodox and Gregorian Chant all at once. It is the mix of the two added to the splendour of Baltic voices which moves me a lot. Even if lyrics of Kanon Pokajanen are from Orthodox Tradition, it's not a liturgical piece of music stricto sensu.
