Alex Ross is one good reason to read the New Yorker, but I found it amusing that the harmonic analysis he gave here paralleled one he made of Radiohead about a year ago. There he noted the effect of a shift between a G major and B major cord, an effect arising from the chords' having one note in common.(But now I'm wondering: I know the Radiohead article was in the New Yorker, but was it actually Alex Ross who wrote it? I t*h*i*n*k it was.)
