"Ride to ruin and the world’s ending!" Funny that the article brings up that line. It stuck out like a sore thumb for me when I heard it in the film. I could be wrong, but I don't remember such a line from the books (and I read them a few times). In the film it seemed like a dramatic device... a Mel Gibsonesque "Braveheart" type stirring pre-battle memorable line. It seemed to me that each heavy battle had its own rousing send off line in the films ("There may come a day when men desert their friends, etc etc.. but not this day. This day we fight!") and none of them were in my memory of the books. Its been a long time though, so I could be wrong. The music from the films, otoh, has become much appreciated on my CDP. A good thing, too... It's been firmly stuck in my head ever since seeing the trilogy in its sequential entirety last Tuesday. My exposure to Wagner's ring has been minimal but you've nudged me in its direction again.
