Diana Krall versus other singer/pianists?

There are many things I like about Diana Krall and I'm not alone in that. She's very musical, has excellent vocal and keyboard technique and she has undeniable onstage presence. So why can I only take one or two tunes without turning to somebody else. That somebody else as I write is Carol Welsman who I like a lot, but could be a number of other excellent jazz singer/pianists. She's no Dr John and she doesn't write great songs like Donald Fagen. And she doesn't play the piano like George Duke.

In fact it's her piano playing that annoys me the most. As a Canadian I imagine Oscar Peterson was an influence, which is regrettable since there's only one Oscar Peterson - there are no clones that match him. Her technique is fine, but she plays for effect, not for inner beauty. Doesn't work for me. It's out of date and just not subtle - jazz has moved on a whole deal and she hasn't.

Am I just being negative here or is this a wider feeling? I don't want to diss the girl because she's a fine musician and has brought the jazz repertoire to a lot of people. I feel guilty for not liking her more, and I keep trying.........but that's how it is.
