You may learn to hear the artifacts and when you do you'll wish you'd purchased the higher resolution version. In addition, even if you can't tell the difference using A-B tests, it does not mean that the emotional enjoyment of the music and the length of listening sessions that are fatigue free won't be different.
It's not whether you can reliably tell the difference, it's whether you can ever tell the difference or even whether you will ever be able to tell the difference.
