My understanding is that the (newer) GS1000 exhibits a different acoustical contour than the RS-1. The GS1000's tonal balance would tend to "correct" the sound during low volume listening sessions, when the Fletcher-Munson effect diminishes our ability to hear the lowest bass notes and the highest high notes. But maybe, there is an anamoly in your own hearing our personal tastes that would predispose you to liking the sound ofthe GS1000 over that of the RS-1. It's not necessarily that one headphone is "better" than the other...
