Come now...
How about a, "you're forgetting something or important?" Or, "you're 1/2 right?"
I should've said something about the recording/mixing process....
There is pressure and HABITS of engineers to compress even before 2 channel mix down.
Most of the evil happens in the mastering process, and that process is the one where the songwriters and musicians are furthest removed. There are many "modern" engineers and producers, (especially those who've heard about and worked with HiRez media), who are becoming more sensitive to loss of dynamics that they are making sure to use as little compression as possible when they turn over their DATs.
When we did our project, our Masters were awful, (and they were done at KDisk), until our engineer showed up in person to "fix" their mixes.
""Do I like it? Of course not, but I do like eating and a roof over my head.""
Do you think that I'm blaming the Masterer or the Mastering process?
There is a HUGE difference there, and your sensitivity is duly noted. I've only met a couple of Mastering Engineers and they both blew me away with their skills and knowledge. Of course it is the people who are PAYING, (the record label), the Masterers who are forcing them to "crank it, dude!"I hear the talking of the DJ, can't understand
just what does he say
