The difference is the "acoustical" performance is mostly a function of venue, where the "amplified" performance can be optimized by the band's sound crew. (Although the musicians themselves often adjust their playing in the acoustic setting.) In fact, with the latter category, the difference in sound amongst various rock bands in the same venue can be downright amazing. Not only with volume and tonal balance, but with clarity as well.Although a poorer venue (such as a sports arena or stadium for a rock concert, or a poorly-designed acoustic venue) will almost always sound awful, regardless of the adjustments made to optimize sound.
