On the economics of the Gaincard

The 47 Labs Gaincard has been getting lots of positive press. It is, by all accounts, a step forward in music reproduction. I will not dispute the accolades this unit has recieved....I have not heard so I cannot comment on the sound quality. I have no reason to doubt that it does indeed sound wonderful.

What I wish to solicit responses on is the price being charged for the unit. It looks as though $3000.00 US is the lowest retail price it can be had for. Not a bad price for a quality amp in and of itself. But (and this is a big but) this amp is made with a handful of very common parts (Indeed this fact seems to be a conerstone of the advertising for the product.).

I am not accusing Sakura Systems of deliberately trying to fleece anyone, nor am i saying the product is not worth the money (value is, after all, entierely subjective.) But with obvious use of minimal parts, I am surprised that few have complained about the price.

Moreover, if this is a superior design, the market should be brimming with knock-offs (9 common parts and a power supply....who could ask for a better item to make cheap copies of?). For gosh sakes, Mike Creek could put the circuit in one of his OBH boxes, sell it for $350.00 and make a mint.
What about DIY...if ever there was a product ripe for DIY picking, this would be it.

I am very likely uninformed and this issue may well have been talked about already....I just have not seen it.

Please note that this is not to slight the product, 47 labs or any owners of the Gaincard. I am just curious.

All opinons welcome

thanks,
Rob
