Here's the real Doppler discussion.

Hi Mike,

It is indeed Dr. Kimber's recent assertions that prompted my post. As I understand it he is currently licensing the technology to several speaker manufacturers. I don't have any idea how the good Doctor performing his audio surgery, and don't really care. I just wanted to point out to everyone that such surgery would be removing a so-called distortion that really belongs there. If this isn't clear to anyone, they need to reread the original post, or I need to rewrite it. I have every reason to believe that the process will produce the illusion of greater clearity but reduced realism (or at least reduced fidelity), and have already presented the arguemnts, which I maintain are self-evident once you have all the information. The reason I think this is important is NOT because I think people should avoid his new product. But I don't think they should fall for the story of Doppler distortion along the way. I believe that an informed consumer is better off than an uninformed one. I have no problem with anyone having a taste for a particular coloration or distortion, so if someone chooses to use this technology to alter the sound in any way they like, that's fine with me. But they should not be fooled into believeing that what they are hearing is a more accurate or less distorted sound, because exactly the opposite is true. If this kind of falacy (Doppler distortion) is accepted as fact in the audio community then it's hard to see how meaningful progress will ever be possible. It's hard to improve something that you have no understanding of.

Be excellent,

Charles
