I think it unlikely that the burn speed will affect polarity. Burnspeed is controlled in the low level hardware, not a copy application. Also it is unlikely that running at a higher speed would result in additional functions being performed as there would be less time to perform them. Of course if there is a software bug anything is possible... That it doesn't work properly at all speeds while allowing you to burn disks that won't play is an indication the device is defective.
