After reading, and reading some more, till I felt sick, MSB Technology Platinum III indeed looks very good when compared to the rest of top contenders.
I have been promised by MSB sales an audition. It is not going to happen some time soon, MSB does not have any kind of dealer network in Canada, it will be a kind of a special arrangement.
MSB web site states that this DAC is Stereophile Class A recommended component, has anyone seen this review?
Beside MSB the contenders were Lavry Gold (D2002), PrismSound DA-2, dCS Delius and Elgar.
All but dCS are resistor ladder DACs.
Considering it will be nearly impossible to audition any of these with exception of dCS, it seems it will be either MSB or dCS.
And considering the difference in price between MSB and dCS, as well as the fact that I witnessed first hand (heard) reliability issue with dCS, MSB is top one.
Unless its performance is less than stellar (what I expect to be at this price point), there is a good chance it will be the one after the audition.
