CD recommendations

hi. i have a friend who is acquiring gear from an older ailing audiophile. what gear, you ask? a Crown DL 2C pre-amp, Marantz 8B amp and JBL D130 speakers. he's asked me to recommend a CD player appropriate for this system. i'd say NAD, Lynn, etc. but i'm a pro audio guy and don't have much experience with hi-fi audio. i am definitely NOT up to date with it either. don't get me wrong, i do have the interest, but have a serious lack of time and funds... for now ;-)

anyway, back to the topic. the friend is a composer and musician so he definitely has good ears. he is not at all a technical guy, though, so i doubt his current system is much more than a combo system w/ CD changer. i believe he'll hear a dramatic difference with his decent (but basic) system. on the CD player he does not need DVD-A, DVD-V or SACD compatibility, but does want a remote. for the sake of simplicity, let's forget about a separate DAC. he did not specify a price range, but based on what i know, he won't want to spend more than about $1200.

thanks in advance. cheers,
-Charlie
