Cause of Sticking CD?

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

I have a redbook CD, about 10+ years old in mint condition on both sides. Until today it has performed flawlessly. Last played about 60 days ago. Today at about 60sec into track 4 it just hung up repeating the same sound. Advance to track 5 it was fine.
Thinking it was probably the CDP I tried it in another CDP. Same problem, same place. One CPD is old, one is new.
Anyone have a similar experience? Anyone understand the underlying problem? I'm baffled.
