Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Anyone know what is wrong with my CD player?

Really it's a DVD player...the model is a Panasonic rp91. Back a couple of years ago it was Panny's flagship DVD player and it retailed for upwards of $800 (I traded someone a panny rp82 for it back when rp82's were hot, and I had about $160 in the rp82). Anyway...

Everything works fine -- all the buttons work, the drawer works, everything is great -- until you go to put a disc in it. After the drawer shuts it says "reading disc" and then it goes black. Pressing the on/off button has no result. If you unplug it, though, let it rest for a couple of minutes, plug it back in and press the on/off switch, it will boot back up just like normal until it goes to read the disc that is in it, at which point it goes black again. Any clue what that is all about?

I can't use it, I can't sell it, I can't throw it away, I can't give it away, it's not worth it to pay someone to fix it because of the way those electronics shops work...

Suggestions?
