If Jon Risch says a shield is essential for phono cables, he is 100% wrong, as usual. I just took this photo of my DIY phono cables where they exit the DIN plug. As you can see, they are unshielded. They are made with Cardas tone arm wire suspended in a lattice of Teflon tubes, the same as all of my ICs.
