A tendency to do the opposite is what should be most noted, as folks more often consider connectors to be an afterthought rather than a critical element that's just as important as the cable vs. the other way around.I don't know of any forum that would advocate a cheap wire/stellar connector combo (power cord, IC, speaker cable, etc.) as a wise thing to do, other than as an option based on certain limitations such as the cost involved per a very long run of cable, or the ability to (or a want to) modify a device in an optimum manner as being the criteria.
Thus said, skimping on the cost of connectors involved in a cable project is more often the issue to address, since it's a real pity to terminate a stellar cable with cheap connectors (counterproductive), while it's a very worthy thing (productive) to terminate a cheap cable with stellar connectors if certain factors such as those mentioned prohibit the use of a stellar cable for one's needs.
