Comparing d-b-s-type cables with and without the batteries connected is very difficult, because the effects of being biased last, according to AQ, for a couple weeks, the same time required to gain those effects in new cable. With my 10-second sonic memory, that's out. Also, I don't have a same-length 'stock' pair* to switch in and out to compare. I think the best I'll be able to do is to compare a pair of IC-4-based cables w/o d-b-s with the new IC-8-cables** with d-b-s and also with half-meter pairs of AQ Cheetah and Jaguar belonging to my friend. I'll try to get my 'listening panel', 2 golden-eared friends, involved.I think there's no Audioquest 'recipe'; I'm simply trying to copy their general idea. The positive d-b conductors are wound thru the 4 active conductors in 2 different orientations to try to 'cover' or contact as much of the dielectric as possible (and that's why I went to 2 from 1 center conductor), and the bare negative conductor wound around the bundle of conductors holds everthing together fairly tightly and, again, contacts every conductor eventually. I don't wish to add any kind of shield as an outer (negative) conductor.
* The pair I speak of is composed of the MPD-to-preamp and the preamp-to-poweramp singles for my center channel. As I wrote, my preamp-to-L/R-poweramps cables with the 40V. d-b systems are hardwired to the poweramps.
** I've ordered 4' of IC-8 and 4 of the new solid-silver-center-pin RCAs to make a new MPD-to-preamp L/R pair.
