There is a lot of military surplus silver-plated copper wire around because the older process for applying Teflon insulation damages bare copper. Since it is mil-spec, the copper quality is very high. Since it has Teflon insulation, the tonal balance from audio cables made from it is good (this is a subjective statement, as some folks don't like the sound of Teflon insulation).Silver-plated copper wire with Teflon insulation has a reputation for bright, harsh sound. My experience is that this brightness results from radio-frequency noise. The wire seems to be better at carrying this noise, so it gets blamed for the consequences. Reducing the power of the noise sources and treating the cables to reduce their ability to carry the noise reduce the brightness. This takes some effort, but the results can be wonderful!
