Thanks for the info...

When I said connect the drain to the return I meant the
return for each channel, not the turntable gnd. So in
principle....these cables were originally designed with the
drain wire to float at the source. I have read about this
before in some DIY type cables. I am using a Benz ACE HO
MC cartridge. Would this be relevent to which end I
float the drain wire on?? I think I might experiment and
try attaching it at both ends to see which works best.
Can you suggest any modest priced interconnects with a
better shield that I could butcher and use for this
application?? If I keep cutting more off of the AR cables,
they are going to be too short....;-).
