a $10 difference in price really sound?

So I popped out the el-cheapo $34.90 HiFiBerry Digi+ (Amateur) transformer board and replaced it with the Digi+ Pro.

Of course I screwed it up and it would not go at all. When I fiddled with it a bit it ran but made no sound (yes I changed the Audio Output settings in PcP to HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro and re-booted, several times in fact).

So back to the bench (OK, kitchen table, but who's watching?) and completely disassembled and reassembled it. Hooked it up again but this time set the PcP to 'analog audio' rebooted, hooked up some cheap cans to the headphone jack and 'music' played. Set PcP to HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro, rebooted and...

ROCK 'N ROLL!

OK, $10 improvement, for sure.

Certainly not WORSE.

NOT DARK and if 'jaydacus' got something that sounds bunches better, please share and don't tell me it's ROON because I've heard ROON on other folk's systems and it's no better than JRiver and in most cases not as good.

From the beginning, Roon envisioned decoupling the computer from audio devices with RAAT. DACs like the Ayre QX-5 Twenty sound excellent with Roon driving it with the Roon Ready Ethernet or USB via Roon Ready mini computers.

Does Roon sound better than JRiver, a program I have and like? I think Roon does sound better in the above applications. And one thing you can be sure of, Roon isn't done improving their software specifically for music reproduction.

I use Rune, not Roon. Different platform, PC and different price, not free.

Roon vs. RUNE.

Guess I'll have to buy a whole bag of uSD cards and try RUNE next.
