I guess it all depends on what one considers to be the side wall, as the shelves end ~15" from the wall itself. If I compare the right speaker's position relative to the side wall before the shelves were installed, to its position in the room after the installation, discounting for shelves' ~15" depth, the right speaker is now ~8" closer to the side wall. HTH.

Did changing the distance change the sound any Felix?Jay

What DIY room treatments did you try? I'm especially interested in
room treatments that improve soundstage depth.I apologise if you have already described them in a previous post.
Many thanks,
Neville
> > What DIY room treatments did you try? <I built three boxes - 48x24x4, 32x24x4, and 16x24x4 - and filled them with 3" and 4" acoustic, "blade" foam. My original plan was to upholster the boxes in burlap, but once the foam arrived I realized that the 3" foam was really 4" thick, and the 4" foam was 51/4" thick, forcing me to modify my plan. I wound up filling the centers of the boxes with the 4" foam, and using the 3" foam to surround it. The visual effect is 3-D, and cosmetically they look kinda nice.

Felix,Many thanks for the detailed reply. Yes, I have the Dunlavy Alethas -
absolutely wonderful speakers.I don't have the exact dimensions of my room on me, but its
roughly 20ft x 18ft. I have the speakers placed along the long wall
towed in to face me. They are about 6ft from the rear wall and
about 12 ft apart. Distance to side walls is about 2.5ft on right
and 5ft on the left. I sit about 1 ft from the rear wall. With
this setup I get a wide soundstage with good depth (especially on
Vinyl) but feel that I can improve on the depth with some judicious
room treatment.Where do you have the three boxes placed in your room? I may
be mistaken, but I thought I saw something that looked like
an acoustic panel mounted on the wall in one of your photos,
possibly behind the listening position. This is something I
may try to reduce the rear wall reflections. Thanks,
Neville
