it means HORIZONTAL MODULATION. That is why horizontal damping is more needed than vertical. My SME 3012 has fluid damping which works in both planes H And V. It was developed as add on device. The damping for SME IV/V was engineered during arm development. I will scan SME test results and post them on Wally's Notes in The Analog Dept. The damping is lowering Q at cartridge compliance/arm effective mass resonance frequency.
Another rule of Physics: Even strongest modulation of vinyl groove cannot move(shake rather than diflect) arm as long as modulation frequency is above cart.compl./Eff.mass resonance frequency. The fenomenon is more complicated.
The fluid damping of arm motion is more critical for cartridges suspensions with high Q .
Yes I can hear better dynamics and bass performance with fluid damping, but it depends on cartridge suspension.

You wrote: Another rule of Physics:............is more complicated. This subject has been dealt with in the thread about arm resonance at Vinyl Engine about which I wrote in my question to you some days ago. The Ladegaard paper and the Magnepan product description are interesting publications on this subject.
Do you also have the impression that SME does not answer emails sent while visiting their site?
Dear All,How about internal wiring? I heard that the new VDH MC silver wire gives much better HF sound than the older version, how true is that? Please advise.
inside the arm. SME has everything documented.Ask for serial numbers and what wires. The length of about 10" inside of arm has less influence than from "din plug" to RCA plugs.
I have my SME V wired with continuous wires (40 ga)from cartridge clips to RCA (Bullet) plugs. I am not thinking anymore about Tonearm wires - I have the best .
Enjoy your Vinyl Playback System when you play Vinyl.

How can I rewire the internal ( inside the tube ) wire to silver wire? Is it a easy DIY process? Please advise.
