hello,i'm twenty four and i don't like any of the current recievers. actually i'm certain that great ones are around, however, i'd rather travel with the money required to own one.
bought a working sansui 2000a for five dollars from a nice guy at a thrift store...sounds pretty good, great when compared my 1995 pioneer
i want to get my dad a reciever...and after paying off some of my college loans for the month i have fifty dollars to spend
could anyone help me decide b/n the two recievers by sharing experiences/knowledge of specifications for the scott 370r or the pioneer qx8000a
i've searched through the archives for a total of 6 hours but to no avail...a few prefer the quadrophonic...
hey thanks for reading, take care

Thats a tough call. The Scott is 70 watts, And I think the Pioneer is 70-75 watts on 2 channels. The pioneer may be a tad better built. But I remeber the early Pioneers being a little colored in their sound, a tad bright. But if I had to pick, go for the Pioneer, Looks nice, and quad is great. If yo do go with the QX, they still sell the speaker jack for the back. Heres a link
i ended up getting the qx for 20 dollars last week...it needs tuner lamps (same as marantz 2220b;8v,200/250ma?)at the thrift store, the service guy hooked up the 370r and qx to some sansui sp2500s for some quick comparisons:
the scott had good sound...bit better than the qx in the lower range...
its tuner was much better than the qx as welli chose the qx for its quad feature, nice mid sound... the highs can get a bit silly( ear piercing), but most importantly, the innards were in superlative condition
the scott looked like its been though a couple of floods...rust everywhere!
thanks for your reply!
